As a Director of Scottish Widows Trustees Limited, an Actuarial Manager at Scottish Widows and Partner at Mercer Consulting, Irene is a qualified actuary with a wealth of experience across the pensions and insurance sectors. She has also been heavily involved with the UK Actuarial Profession, through her membership of Council and a range of committees, some of which she chaired. With this background, Irene works across all sectors of the UK market, and has a deep understanding of the market in Scotland, where she is based. Given her international experience, she also recruits for some specialist international roles.

Biography

Following graduation from Glasgow University, Irene joined Scottish Widows rising to become a senior Pensions Actuarial Manager and Director of Scottish Widows Trustees Limited.

She then moved to Mercer as a Consulting Actuary, becoming a European Partner with additional responsibilities for UK Operational Risk Assessment and Professional Standards in UK and Europe. 

Irene has proven ability to offer high quality professional advice and is well known in the industry having served on Boards and Committees of the UK Actuarial Profession.

She is an experienced presenter and has represented the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries on the Pension Committee of the Groupe Consultatif as well as the IAA, when she chaired two task forces developing actuarial standards for accounting for insurance, pensions, and post-retirement medical liabilities. 

In 2009, Irene became Head of Regulatory Policy at the UK Actuarial Profession, with responsibilities across all areas of actuarial practice before joining Star Actuarial Futures as a Partner in 2010. She is also a member of the Scottish Independent Actuaries.

Irene was the first lady to chair the Scottish Actuaries Club and is a member of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries.
