For those of you currently preparing to take the ST1 exam on 5thOctober, our Senior Consultant Carolina Emmanuel (who completed all of the actuarial exams in July) has put together some tips based on her experiences of taking (and passing) the exam. She just posted these on ourLinkedin groupand we thought it would be useful to share them here as well:
For ST1 I had separate folders for the main different products (from memory there were four main ones). During revision I would add notes under each product.
Then a few weeks before the exam I started to memorise a lot of the material for each product, creating my own acronyms. The best thing about making up your own acronyms is that is usually easier to remember.
I also simultaneously continued to do some questions as well to practise exam technique.
I found ST1 questions were more closely related to bookwork (compared to ST4, which I felt required a lot of application) - so knowing/memorising key parts of the bookwork is important to answer questions fully.
And of course it goes without saying – practise with lots of past papers!
Good luck revising!
